PRESIDENT OF AXEL HOTELS IS HONOURED BY THE INTERNATIONAL GAY & LESBIAN TRAVEL ASSOCIATION

By Henry GOODMAN

TORONTO, Canadá (EUROLATINNEWS) – The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association (IGLTA) and the New York State Senate have recognized Juan P.Juliá for his work at the head of Axel Hotels, the world's first chain of hotels aimed at the gay community.

The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association awarded Juliá with the “Chairman’s Award” for his outstanding business trajectory at the head of Axel Hotels and his compromise with the LGTB collective.

This distinction was awarded to him in the framework of the association's 26th annual conference held in Toronto from 7 to 10 May.

To this award can also be added the recognition that the State Senate of New York will bestow upon Juan P. Juliá for his continued support of the LGTB community from within the tourism industry. The act will take place in June during the New York State Senate Democratic Conference's Event, which will be held to coincide with the city's «Gay Pride».

Created in 1983, the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association is a global organization dedicated to bringing together business initiatives in the LGTB tourism sector. Its members are hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, tourism offices, communication media and other players in the sector from over 55 countries from around the world.

"SEEK CHIC"

Under the slogan “Seek Chic” and through various workshops, the IGLTA conference was focused on luxury travel and explored the possibilities of technology to identify and reach LGTB travellers, a market which continues to grow despite the current world economic climate.

The last edition of the conference took place in Las Vegas and broke attendance records, bringing together almost 500 tourism professionals from 25 different countries.

The International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association wants to recognize Axel Hotels, in the figure of Juan P. Juliá, as a clear example of a prestigious business initiative. The unique character of Axel Hotels, its heterofriendly philosophy, the Axel atmosphere, its excellence of service, the great fidelity of its cosmopolitan and very demanding guests, and its excellent price-quality relationship, have all allowed Axe Hotels to have great expectations for the future.

They are truly hotels with a destiny.

This award arrives at a very special moment for Juan P. Juliá.

“2009 is the year we opened our third hotel, Axel Hotel Berlin, and the start of a new stage in the group to export the Axel concept to the major cities of the five continents. Moreover, the fact that the IGLTA is awarding me this honour has a great emotional value for me, given that it is my own colleagues from the gay community in the international tourism sector who have considered the Axel project, through me, to be a business success worthy of honouring”, affirms Juliá.

For its part, the New York State Senate will hold the New York State Senate Democratic Conference's Event as part of « New York's Gay Pride » in a grand gala on 25 June in New York City Hall.

At this event Juliá will be recognized for his continued support of the LGTB community from within the tourism industry.

Other honours will go to the actors Patrick Wilson, star of “Watchmen”, Angela Lansbury, the famous Jessica from the series “Murder she wrote”, and Oscar winners from the film Milk, Dustin Lance Black and Cleve Jones.
